Our Foundation

The Catherine Gide Foundation aims, irrespective of geographical barriers, to foster the literary
and cultural heritage of André Gide (1869-1951).
In this spirit, the foundation especially supports talented young Ph.D students, researchers
and essayists.
The foundation also supports the publication of works of scholarship, literary criticism and history regarding Gide and his times.
In addition, it subsidizes the publication of previously unpublished documents (texts, letters, etc.)
if they are of general interest, and may also promote other media relating to the literary and cultural work of Gide and his period: cinema, theatre, exhibitions, concerts and cultural events in the wider sense, etc.


The statues

The Catherine Gide Foundation is a foundation which fosters the preservation and dissemination
of the cultural and literary heritage of André Gide (1869-1951), in any country or language.
The Foundation serves the public interest and seeks no financial gain. All donations are welcome and will be acknowledged. Subject to their agreement, donors’ names are published on this website.


Application for Subsidies

The Catherine Gide Foundation devotes itself to helping young scholars and authors with their work and publications.

Those interested should send to the Foundation:
– a detailed CV
– a proposal for their publication project
– extracts from previous work
– quotations from suppliers regarding expends,
– if applicable, a publication contract


Gide and Music

In addition to using the editing, the Foundation wishes to promote musical creation by the support of composers who wish to register their works with a view Gide.
The Foundation has supported the work of composer Pierre Thilloy at the time of its creation entitled "Amen", commissioned by Catherine Gide Foundation for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the French Nouvelle Revue.

Foundation Award

Our Foundation has created a prize to encourage researches around André Gide. Each year, the winner will be hosted in the french prestigious Fondation des Treilles.



From 2012, la Fondation des Treilles by its Jean Schlumberger Center, will host the winner of the Catherine Gide Foundation Prize to writing a review or essay (literary, historical or artistic) on specifically or compared to André Gide.
This award is subject to the same conditions as those set by the Jean Schlumberger Center and more details can be found on the specific website where the application can be downloaded.

Academic Grants

Catherine Gide Foundation wants to help students in Erasmus Mundus European Literary Cultures (CLE), who are dedicating their works to Andre Gide and his time.
Two scholarships, each with 5000 euros, are offered. The first around of Andre Gide in his time ; the second around the work or the intellectual horizon of Andre Gide. Applicants will be selected by submitting a letter of intent setting out the project.
The scholarships may be divided if more candidates demonstrate excellence. Foundation or its representative will establish with the coordinator Erasmus Mundus Master CLE how to predict.

Beyond the literary or academic field, the Foundation wishes to help artists with projects in disciplines as varied as film, photography, drama, painting, etc.
